Applying for a Grant
To apply for a grant, send a letter outlining the grant proposal to Michael D. Anderson, President of the Foundation. If you have any questions, the Foundation staff will discuss proposals and the application process with you.
The letter of application should include the following:
- A description of the project with clearly stated plans and objectives.
- Background on the organization, including the purpose and goals, constituent group served and types of programs offered.
- Timetable for the grant, total estimated project budget, other sources of support and the amount requested from the Foundation (please include a detailed budget).
- A list of the current officers and directors of the organization.
- A copy of the Internal Revenue Service letter of approval for 501(c)(3) charitable organizations verifying tax-exempt status.
All requests are reviewed by the staff to determine whether they fall within the Foundation's specified areas of interest and priority. The Grants Committee then reviews the grants and makes recommendations on funding to the Board of Trustees for a final decision.
The Foundation awards grants only to qualified nonprofit organizations. Grants are not made:
- To individuals
- To private foundations
- To for-profit organizations
- For operating funds of organizations
Unfortunately, many worthy grant applications cannot be approved because the number of requests far exceeds the resources of the Foundation.
