Some people see things and say 'why?'
I see things that never were and say
'why not?'
- George Barnard Shaw
A great revolution is upon us. Scientists are asking the basic "why" questions about diseases that kill and destroy human life. Scientists are also asking the "why not" questions about discovering root causes of disease and finding revolutionary new therapies. Biotechnology takes these "why not" dreams and transfers them to the new targeted products that will save and enhance life.
However, quality medical research is expensive. The translational art of taking discovery from the bench to the practical product for people is expensive as well. Yet as trustees of the Presbyterian Health Foundation have discussed, if you think research is expensive, try disease.
This foundation continues to expand with the active recruitment of scientists and biotechnology companies, and the spirit of that expansion is a willingness to dream "why not"? Human suffering and death can be alleviated. As the prophet Isaiah said, "Do not cling to events of the past or dwell on what happened long ago. Watch for the new thing I am going to do. It is happening already, you can see it now."
Welcome to the Presbyterian Health Foundation Research Park, the place
where hundreds of skilled people in 49 companies and laboratories
look at the challenges of new dreams and say, "why not?"
